He was in his early life a merchant in Meriden and was afterwardspostmaster for eight years. For twenty-five years the office was inthe charge of his father, Levi Yale, His cousin, Ira N. Yale, orhimself. A large fire and life insurance buisness engaged him closelyfor twenty-four years. The remaninder of his life was spent on hisfarm. He was a quiet, unasuming man, of domestic tastes and fond ofnature. He was an autohrity on the civil and political history of thecountry. Yales and Wales p.291
