  • Judge Elihu Yale, of New Haven, Conn., was married May 25, 1830, toJulia Ann Rich, of Cheshire, Conn., who was born March 30, 1814. Shewas daughter of Captain Thaddeus and Christiana Rich of Cheshire.Judge Elihu Yale was the author and compiler of the original YaleGenealogy published in 1850, and his name should be honored and hismemory kept green in the hearts of all Yale descendants, as a tributeto his tireless, unselfish, persevering and successful efforts incollecting, compiling and preserving the priceless records, whichafter -over two years of ceaseless and oftentimes discouraged laborand research, he finally brought together in book form. He first livedat Wallingford, Conn., but later resided at Cheshire, Conn.; where hewas Post Master and Judge of the Probate Court, at the time he wascompiling the Yale Genealogy. He afterwards removed to New Haven in1851, and during his residence there, he was a member of the citycommon council five years, Chief of Police three years, also constableand Justice of the Peace. He was also engaged in the marble businessthere for many years. He died in New Haven, February 19, 1872, and wasinterred in Wallingford, his native town.
