Notes

  • Gad Lowery Yale moved with hiss family from South Cannan, CT, to KnoxCounty, Illinois in 1840 and purchased quite a large tract of land inLynn Township, Knox Co.  The country there was new at the time, andChicago, then only a small place, was the favored trading post, 140miles distant.  A trip to Chicago, with wagons loaded with wheat andhauled by ox teams, was not an unusual, yet a formidable undertakingin those days; returning with supplies for the farm and home.  Thematerial for a large barn built on the Lynn Township farm, was partlyhauled from Chicago in this manner. Mr. Yale was an enterprising, energetic, genial and courageous man of unswerving integrity, andrespected by all that knew him.  He was an invalid for the last sixyears of his life, and died on his Lynn Township farm.  Yale School inLynn Township was named after him.
